Powerscourt Gardens was ranked No. 3 in the World’s Top Ten Gardens by National Geographic. The spectacular waterfall at Powerscourt is the highest on the Island. Powerscourt Gardens are a sublime blend of formal gardens, sweeping terraces and ornamental lakes. Take in some of the 200 varieties of trees and shrubs. Set against the backdrop of the Sugarloaf Mountain, the extensive grounds are over 47 acres in size. Inspiration for the garden design followed visits to gardens at the Palace of Versailles, Schönbrunn Palace near Vienna, and Schwetzingen Castle near Heidelberg.
Powerscourt Waterfall is the highest waterfall in Ireland. Just 5 klms from the Gardens itself. As we drive from the gate lodge towards the waterfall you are surrounded by Beech, Oak, Larch and Pine trees, some of which were planted over 200 years ago. Look out for the Giant Redwoods, native to Northern California and grow up to 80m high. There is plenty of wildlife to enjoy at the waterfall including birds such as the Chaffinch, Cuckoo, and the Willow Warbler.
Tour deep into the history of Ireland at Glendalough, a mythical glaciated valley with serenity calling you. This “valley of two lakes” – reveals the remarkable remains of this early Christian site deep in the Wicklow Mountains. Feel at one with nature. Indulge your imagination in the story of Saint. Kevin who born into a noble family, renounced his riches for a life among the birds and animals and a life in prayer in this seclusion in a cave above the Upper Lake. Over time he attracted followers and the monastic enclave grew.
